Pure

by Leslie

Julia and I love to twirl to the song “Pure” by The Lightning Seeds.
(Listen to it here. Buy it here.)

We giggle and turn round and round to the twittering synth sounds and euphonious melody. I scoop her up and hug her tight as we continue to spin. She wraps her legs around my waist, leans back, holds her arms out and closes her eyes, smiling without worry or fear. She clutches my arms and begins to laugh. By the end of the song we’re not spinning as much as we’re rocking, and her head is on my chest, her arms are stretched around me and her little hands are patting me to the beat of the song.

“Pure” has long been one of my favorite songs, but now, it’s more than a tune I like. It’s a song that’s meaningful to me because of Julia. It embodies the rapturousness that comes from spinning or knowing my daughter.

My little girl, who sparkles and shines…and knew that asking Mommy to spin with her would be the first stitch in the mend of her broken heart, I love you.

Awwww…kids make the best dancing partners, don’t they?

I used to work with young children with autism, and I used music to encourage one of my girls to use more language. We’d put on a CD and dance all around the room, and she’d get so excited that she’d request, “Hug, please!”. It was the best. And no one has ever been quite so tolerant of my vocal stylings… :)

I want to have one of those families that dances together, too. It’s so purely joyful!

And I’m glad that you’re smiling and dancing. It’s good medicine for your heart; good for Julia for taking care of Mommy. :)

That is so sweet. Dawson doesn’t really dance much, only when Thomas the Tank Engine’s theme song is on. And it’s more of a silly/goofy dance!
