We had company at our house this weekend. When our guests arrived, Julia greeted them cheerfully.

“Hi guys!”

She put her hand on my shoulder and said, “This mom.”

Then she put her hand on my breast, “And this milk!”

All eyes quickly moved to my chest and the little hand resting upon it. I shifted my weight uncomfortably in my seat as the notion that Julia, a 2-year old, was still breastfeeding dawned upon the childless group.

Other mothers had warned me that, regardless of the facts, the act of allowing my child, who was old enough to walk and talk, to drink milk from my breasts was disgusting and perverted behavior that was abhorrent to social rules. How could I sacrifice the comfort of strangers for the health and well-being of my child? Look at what happens if you do.

I glanced at Julia and she was beaming with pride. Apparently she believes, my “milks” are so grand, they deserve their own introduction.

And why not? “Milks” are grand.

You know.

    Um.

Male perspective, here…. Milks are grand, indeed.

    (but what do I know?)

In a room full of men, they precede you, anyway - may as well introduce them! :)

When it comes to our kids, we make the decisions that we believe are best for them. It’s our duty as their mothers. And we don’t have to justify ourselves to anyone.

I think your kid is lucky. (And funny :-) )

That’s so funny and I can imagine it was embarassing at first.

I agree, she’s very lucky to have you as a mom.

LOL so cute!! Thankfully my little guy asks for “na-nas” and nothing more descriptive than that, not that I hide his breastfeeding, but you know. It’s a wonderful thing, but I’m not the one you have to convince, either ;) . Of course he does say to the ladies on the TV on Deal or No Deal - “Hi ladies, ooooo, na-na’s” so that may be an entirely different issue ;) .
