Oh, Baby!
by Leslie
I had my ultrasound and yep! There’s a baby in there. See?

Baby Grimmett is measuring about 5 days younger than we expected, but looked just perfect. We heard the heartbeat - a strong and steady 162 beats per minute. And there was only one. Dave asked. Twice.
“And you’re sure there aren’t two in there?”
The ultrasound tech was sure. She printed off some pictures - one for the doctor, one for me and one for Julia, the proudest big sister the world has ever known. She’s carrying her picture in her backpack.
When the doctor came in to look over the ultrasound results, Julia approached her and asked, “So, you gonna pull that baby out now?” The doctor told her that the baby had a lot more growing to do. Julia was only mildly disappointed.
I feel such relief now that I’ve seen our little guy. Or girl. It could be a girl. But, I’ll admit. When I saw that ultrasound, I immediately believed it was a boy. I could be wrong. Julia thinks I’m wrong. I guess we’ll see.
I think it’s amazing that such a teeny, tiny, itty, bitty baby has been making me so incredibly ill. I was expecting to see twins or a giant mega super-big baby or at least something more like this:

Thankfully, our baby doesn’t seem to resemble Satan at all, but the nurse told me it’s still pretty early to rule it out. Then, she handed me my prescriptions for Phenergan (for my nausea) and Lactulose (to help me poop) and I danced out the door with my family and we enjoyed a car ride home reminiscent of the scene in Tommy Boy after they made their sale quota. Except we were singing along to 99 Luftballoons and Twist and Shout while Julia shouted, “Go Mommy! Go Daddy! Go Grandma!” as we each took turns as lead clapper and car dancer.
Yeah. It was a pretty good day.

Yay!! So awesome! Just wait until that pitch fork starts growing… ouch.
I’m really happy for your family. Congrats.
Yay! And are you sure that’s than an alien inside of you? That’s what I thought the first time I saw an ultrasound.
That is so awesome, I’m so happy for you guys!
Catching up on all my favorite blogs, I’ve missed reading your posts!
Awwww….your baby i adorable….definitely has your eyes:)
I am so happy to hear everything is going well.
(and that your baby does not resemble Satan…*shudder*)
Awwww a wee peanut if ever I saw one! Soooo cute.
Yea! Wonderful news!
YIPPEE!!! It’s really a baby!! Through all three of my pregnancies I was amazed that I was really growing a baby!! So glad everything was positive, even the car ride home.
Hoping the meds work for you!
Oh Leslie i am so happy for you. I was dreaming last night that it is gonna be a girl
What a wonderful day for your family. The next few months are going to fly.
Yay for babies! Yay for Leslie! Yay for Dave! Yay for Julia! I’m so excited for you! (I think boy too.)
Phew, first milestone reached, congratulations!
I love the picture of the devil child, you will definitely have to hold on to that one for later.
It’s another beautiful baby!
Looks like a great, healthy baby! Yeah! And I love the car scene. Julia is so great. (as are you all!)
Thank you. I love these. No, not Satan.
That second pic is cracking me up! I love ultrasound pictures. They make you feel so warm and bubbly and you forget about your warm body and bubbly tummy for a few minutes. I won’t get my first one until the big gender check unless, god forbid, something goes wrong.
Oh! Oh! OH!
There’s a BABY in there!!!
Wow, Leslie. Just wow.
Isn’t reproducing the most amazing thing? (I mean aside from the tiredness, the nausea, and the discomfort?)
So cool you got to see that baby…
I have to say I was WAY sicker with my son than with my daughter and my daughter was first and I had no idea what she was until she came out. BUT I KNEW I was having a boy. I hope you get one too! LOVE the pitch fork!!!
