The snow has come. We woke this morning to a world wrapped in white. I’m not sure who was more excited to get out and play in it - Dave, Julia or me.

We couldn’t dive in right away, though. First, we had piano class. Then, we had to stop at the store. (I needed some supplies. I got a HUGE buckeye order this morning, above and beyond my usual holiday orders, which is nothing short of a Christmas miracle. Although the Christmas shopping for the children in our family has been done for a while, it now appears that I may be able to give Dave something more than my body wrapped in a bow on Christmas morning. I may actually be able to get him a gift he doesn’t already have. Like my body wrapped in a bow and adorned with some kind of new jewelry. Or fuzzy socks.)

While at the store, we picked up a green saucer sled for $3.95. Then we came home and went straight to it.

Sled Riding!

The Sled Riding.

I had talked about The Sled Riding and how we were looking forward to some snow, with a friend recently. She said, “It sounds like you love to sled ride. It’s too bad you’ll miss out on it this year.”

And I was all, “Huh?”

She said, “Well, you’re pregnant. You won’t be able to go.”

And I said, “Watch me.”

And you can. If you click here. (There is a one and a half minute video of The Sled Riding. You’ll see Julia go down the hill; Dave attempt and fail to go down the hill; Dave go down the hill; and then yours truly - all big and pregnant - gunning down the hill. At least it felt like I was going incredibly fast while it was happening. It doesn’t look so fast on the video. But people I’m telling you, it was fast. Trust me. It’s why I’m screaming.)

Tomorrow, there will be more of The Sled Riding. This time, with friends!

You can’t sled ride because you are pregnant? Oooookay. This coming from me, who given half a chance would have horseridden pregnant.

    Julia looks gorgeous!

  2. Mommy the Maid on December 5, 2007 10:37 pm

That is so cool!!! You guys look like you are having so much fun.

  3. Karly on December 5, 2007 11:18 pm

Dude. I went on a SLIP N SLIDE when I was pregnant. I didn’t KNOW that I was pregnant yet, but that doesn’t matter. If I can slip n slide, you can sled! For sure.

I died laughing when Dave flipped over! LOL!

  4. Daddy Forever on December 5, 2007 11:28 pm

Ha-ha, Dave got stuck. Funny guy. Why can’t we get a big snow storm instead of a rain/wind storm?

  5. mackeydoodle on December 6, 2007 12:16 am

Man, I got to find a way for us to live closer together, we would have a blast!
MY MIL would have fainted if I went sledding when I was pregnant. Hell, she told me I shouldn’t wash walls because if I lift my arms above my head I will strangle the baby with the ambilical cord!
I never said my MIL was sane.

  6. Amanda on December 6, 2007 9:51 am

I call snow hats toboggans. Don’t know why but we do. LOL.

You look like you were having so much fun. We got about an inch of snow so we made a small snowman and now it’s all gone.

  7. Pam on December 6, 2007 10:26 am

UGH! I am so jealous! My kids will probably NEVER see snow like that. How did you get up off the saucer in all that snow.
Dave’s ride reminded me of that scene in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation where Clark goes off on the saucer. Too funny

  8. Sam on December 6, 2007 11:42 am

That video was great. What good times!

  9. Suzanne on December 6, 2007 11:55 am

Dude, when I was pregnant with Jachin I asked the doctor what types of activities I couldn’t do. He said, “Well, like what?” And I said, “Well, like what about skiing? Can I still go skiing?” And he said, “Sure… as long as you don’t ski off of a cliff and land on your stomach on a huge rock.” He was a cool doctor… and I stopped worrying about every little thing. (ps- that was back when I still tried to ski to please my husband. I’ve long since stopped doing that.)

    Long Live The Sled!

That looks like it was so much fun! I can’t wait to take Miles sledding this winter.

BTW I grew up calling it sliding - we went sliding on sleds. Once I moved out of Vermont and was made fun of I quickly changed to sledding.

Happy Holidays! Just a random comment to let you know that I love what you are doing with your blog. Great pictures!

The video was great, and Julia’s smile is even better! Happy sledding!

I went in a bouncy castle when I was pregnant with Ironflower. I was with my first graders and we had the best time. Good for you - and great video!

  14. Kyra on December 6, 2007 4:13 pm

Got my t-shirt today. I LOVE it! THanks!

I tobogganed about two weeks before having my son. I’m not saying I was the most graceful person on the hill (oh, I so wasn’t, as I rolled myself off it at the bottom, Classy.), but it was definitely fun.

    Here via Finslippy. Great site!

  16. Laurie on December 6, 2007 9:29 pm

    I loved that video!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Joe on December 6, 2007 11:26 pm

Great video, Dave cracks me up. Great hill to have access to by the way. The face plant looked awesome, wish I could have seen the first one. LOL!

  18. susiej on December 7, 2007 10:54 am

Yeah!! Snow! She looks adorable — is she going to try and go down the slide!! Love the video. (I’m running out of steam on mine.)

  19. Jan on December 8, 2007 10:54 pm

Those rosy cheeks of Julia are priceless. Have fun !

Oh, you have the best laugh!
And this sledding while your pregnant thing wouldn’t have anything to do with your propensity to do the opposite of what you’re told, would it?
Me, I would do that too.
I haven’t seen snow like that in a long, long time! What a great day for you all. (new baby included!)

  21. Fourier.analyst on January 23, 2008 10:23 am

Fun. Fun! Funny!! Just want to point out that Dave got stuck halfway down the hill, while you did not!! What does that say I wonder?
