I’m talking about Psychedelic Sock Monkeys, made from tie-dye socks.

Remember how my mom and I were making sock monkeys? Well, we’re totally making sock monkeys. Fabulously flawed and completely unique sock monkeys. And this is our first Psychedelic Sock Monkey.

Psychedelic Sock Monkey

This one is actually going to my good friends Wendy and Joe who suggested the idea for a tie-dye sock monkey a couple weeks ago. (Pssst. There’s another available at my Etsy Shop. Ya know. Just, FYI. Or whatever. You don’t have to buy one. You can just go there and admire our handiwork.)

Since then, my mom and I have been working out the details to bring the Psychedelic Sock Monkey notion to fruition.

At first, we thought we’d tie-dye our own socks. Yeah!

Um, no.

When that didn’t work, we found a fabulous vegan store that sells organic tie-dye socks and decided that was the way to go.

I don’t know about you, but, Good Mornin’ Starshine, I think our Psychedelic Sock Monkeys are adorable. If you don’t, that’s okay. I mean, the world is filled with all kinds of people. Some people like some things and others just don’t. Some people have hearts bursting with love and happiness and others have cold, black shriveled remnants of a heart composed of dirt and ice, maybe even worms. But, come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try and love one another right now. Even the sock monkey haters. (Let’s be honest, they probably need our love the most.)

Peace out!

    OMG Leslie!
I was going to ask you if you could do a tie dyed monkey. One of my BF’s is a tie dye freak!
I noticed in your shop that he is $34.00 compared to your others that $14.00.
    Just wondering why?

  4. Leslie on January 27, 2008 2:04 pm

Mackey - the cost of the tie-dye socks is significantly higher than the other socks we’ve used. $14.00 would just cover the cost of the socks! There are cheaper tie-dye socks we could find, but they aren’t dyed all the way through, so the monkey looks cheap. Plus, if you check out the other monkeys on Etsy, our prices are much lower to start with (especially when you consider the 5 hours of labor that goes into each one!)

Holy crap, he is cute! I’m totally going to check back for more sock monkeys…my friend is having a baby girl this summer and a soft little sock monkey would make the cutest gift! Then again…I wonder if the baby would eat the little eyeballs? Hmm…may rethink that. But! I will find SOMEONE to buy a sock monkey for BECAUSE I LOVE THEM!

  6. Leslie on January 27, 2008 2:16 pm

Karly - The lastest ones we’ve been making have felt eyes that are sewn on, so they aren’t a choking hazard like the button eyes.

  15. heathersway on January 29, 2008 11:45 am

I love all your monkeys, including the tie-dyed ones. You ARE super creative and seemingly tireless. How do you do it girl?

  16. Amanda on January 29, 2008 9:20 pm

I love these monkeys soo much! When I see the perfect ones I’ll get them for my 2 boys!

  17. Baby Girl on January 31, 2008 11:54 am

What a really cool alternative to the standard vintage cream, red and gray variety! Kind of a “Summer of Love” meets “Father Knows Best” combo? I would ADORE to decorate a room using those little cuties.
