Full Term Pregnancy: A Haiku And A Poll
by Leslie
kept me up all night last night
False, but still painful.
I’ve finished my 37th week of pregnancy and Lucy is nice and big, which means this pregnancy is considered full term. My body is whispering: this baby is almost ready to come. I’m having a lot of false labor; it’s irregular, but getting progressively more painful. And I’m starting to have other symptoms that my due date is near - you know, the gross ones.
My scheduled c-section is about two weeks away. Dave is convinced that I’m going to go into labor early. My doctor says it’s unlikely. What do you think?

Hmmm, is there any reason you DON’T want to go into labour early?
I think possible. Especially if the false labour is already painful. As for the doctor, how does he know? I was told labour would start THAT NIGHT. 10 days later I gave birth.
I always think people will go early. Its just cuz I’m so excited for the little brats to get here.
Is Dave finally convinced there is only one of ‘em in there? And that she’s got girl parts?
Yeah, if you’re already having painful contractions along with other signs of labor you are pretty darn close. But that’s just my opinion.
I’m one of the [few] “no” voters. Since my two came so far past their due dates, I always assume that every baby will be late and refuse to get my hopes up. Though I might change that to a “yes” if you told me that Julia came early.
Also, I’d like to send you and Lucy a little something if you don’t mind sharing your address. Let me know.
So - you may have mentioned it in another post at one point that I must have missed, but what is the reason for the scheduled c-sec? (If you don’t mind sharing that is)
Just don’t break the keyboard by typing too hard during false labor. Best of luck in the upcoming days and weeks! To both of you!
I voted sooner than two weeks, but I’m guessing that Lucy will come when she’s ready.
I hope everything goes as easily as it can.
Amy - I had an emergency c-section with Julia. I tried to have her naturally, but she just wasn’t coming out that way (and she was only 7 pounds). I bruised my cervix pushing. My doctor didn’t recommend a vaginal birth after my c-section because of the problems I had trying to deliver Julia and referred me to a specialist if I wanted to go that route. None of our local hospitals would allow me to do a VBAC there due to the risk. I would’ve had to deliver at a hospital quite a distance away (farther than the 45 minutes I’m already traveling). And honestly? When my doctor started talking about fatality rates, that was enough for me to say, “Okay! C-section!”
In all truthfulness, I don’t think I have it in me to labor like I did with Julia just to end up with another c-section. I’m not the superwoman I thought I was when I went into labor with Julia.
Wow, one impressive belly there mate! Hope all goes well. Pack your bags!
You know that if you’re prepared that she’ll wait until the scheduled day, right? So if you want to go early, just be kinda prepared.
I’m sure everything will be fine - and you will NOT have my spinal experience, okay? And if you do, it only lasts for a few minutes.
The second child is usually early so you are probably right. Start packing.
You know what I am going to say. Be prepared my friend. Pack the bag, expect to go into labor any minute, and the c-section will go as planned.
I can’t wait to see Julia’s new baby.

Sorry babe, I voted for full term, but only because I had to suffer through 40 damn weeks with every one of these monkeys in my life, and I just feel that every one should have such joy.
I am wishing you lots of love and luck and just oh so much goodness as you approach the day. I really can’t wait to hear the news!!
