Not My Day

by Leslie

Today was Father’s Day.

And what do you do on Father’s Day when the father of your children has to spend the day sleeping for his night shift and money is too tight to purchase a gift? You make a sad and pathetic little cake, that’s what you do. At least that’s what I did. Of course, I didn’t believe it was going to be sad and pathetic when I started. I believed it was going to be the best! cake! ever! I felt certain that cake would be so impressive that I’d get suggestions to start my own cake-making business. At the very least, I felt confident that I’d get offers for sex.

But, the cake didn’t turn out so well.

The Baseball Cap Cake

It’s supposed to be a baseball cap. It has a ‘D’ on it for Dad. Or Dave. Or Disaster.

I’m not really even sure you can call it a cake. It’s 87% icing. The dome part of the baseball cap didn’t cook through in the middle. So, I hollowed it out and filled it with icing. Like a Ho Ho. Because Ho Ho’s are good, right? Then, I iced the outside. The cake kept crumbling so the icing is speckled with chocolate cake particles. And the red icing? Ugh. It’s no coincidence that red is the color of evil. Stupid icing.

Also, I did all of this while carrying Lucy in the Moby Wrap. And I allowed Julia to help. Julia’s idea of helping is sucking icing out of the tube when your back is turned.

My Little Icing Eater

The photo is blurry because she couldn’t stop moving, thanks to the sugar rush. By the time her Daddy woke up for work, she was crashing, which led to bawling, screaming, crying and stomping. And I hate it when Dave leaves the house like that.

So, Happy Father’s Day, Dave, from your less than perfect family. We really do love you. Really. We do.

Awww I think it is a lovely cake! We didn’t have a lot to spend for a gift either this month. Since John’s deep was covered - inside and out - with about 2 inches of dirt, I decided to wash, wax and detail it. It took 6 hours! I even got out our steamer vacuum and cleaned the carpets. Didn’t cost much (bought some back to black for the plastics and a special plastic cleaner for the soft top windows) but he has been thanking me profusely since yesterday so I know it was one of the best gifts I have ever given him in his opinion. And I have to say, I am pleased with the results too. That jeep was gross to ride in!

Sorry - that was supposed to be John’s *Jeep* not *deep* lol!

I think your cake was awesome - absolutely sweet and thoughtful. You know what Hot Guy got? A card and a magazine he likes. And he actually won’t even get them until next week, when he gets back from a business trip.

Hey… I think it’s amazing that in Lucy/Julia fog you MADE a cake. And it’s a delightful cake. Truly. Happy Father’s Day to Dave!

When I made Jachin’s cake a few weeks back, I realized half into making the cake that I was out of canola oil. No biggie… I had Olive Oil! And oil is oil, right??? Ever had a German Chocolate/Olive flavored cake? It tasted as good as you think…

Don’t worry about it. I’m sure Dave is still excited about being a father again.

This just made me realize that the reason our whole love affiar started? Was over your poker chip cakes you made Dave. If I remember correctly that was the first post of yours I saw, I commented about how cool you were (I think), and then bookmarked it to remind myself to make cool poker chip cakes for Cleatus (never happened). So. There’s our story.

Anyway, the cake was cute. Not as cute as the poker chips, but still cute! And everyone knows the icing is the best part, so the hollowed out middle? Genius!
