so early? the Christmas vacation isn’t even over yet????
(then again I thought you were starting preparations so early as well!! so I guess it makes sense).
In Belgium trees usually stay up until epiphany at least (jan 6) after which most towns organise a tree pick-up round or a big bonfire or something. In the Netherlands many people throw out the tree at new years night and yes you can take that quite literally. I have seen trees falling down from an apartment building at 12:15 or so :p.
We got a real tree this year and I swear since Christmas it has been the most fragrant since we brought it home, we’re sure it’s a last ditch effort by the tree so we keep it around that much longer lol.
One year, my first husband and I got a real tree. We had some kind of argument that I can’t remember the details of now, but it came down to a stand-off about the Christmas tree. It stood in our living room until April. That was one nasty fire hazzard. And a rough five months.

Usually, I take the tree down on New Year’s day. I’m not sure what my hurry was this year. I guess I was just ready to take it down.
My ex-mother-in-law used to keep her tree up well into February. She’d take the Christmas decorations off and cover it with hearts.

Thanks for the card, it arrived yesterday. xxx

I really need to do this.
I love Christmas and I’m always a little sad when it’s done. But I think a Christmas tree still standing long after it’s over is even sadder.
