I am a woman ruled completely by her stomach. This pregnancy has me hungry like I’ve never been hungry before. Lock up your pets and don’t get too close - I might bite. Not because I want to. I HAVE TO. Like a vampire. I’m THAT HUNGRY. ALL THE TIME.
It’s almost scary.
At first I thought it was a mental thing. I’d been limiting my calories for so long to lose weight, I felt sure it was my brain going, “WE’RE PREGNANT? WOO HOOO! LET’S EAT!!!!” But if it’s mental, my mind is amazing because I’ve never experienced such intense and relentless hunger. And if I deny it and do not eat, I get sick. Not nauseous sick. Pukey bile dry heave sick.
Don’t worry. It’s not like I’m not eating. If you’ve seen me lately, it’s obvious I’m eating. I look like the old lady who swallowed a fly after she swallowed the horse except I’m not dead.
People ask, “So when are you due?” And when I say September, they’re like, “Really? I thought it was sooner.”
I’m scared I’m going to gain my 100 pounds back. I’m well on my way.
I had a chicken pot pie at 9 a.m. this morning. Because I HAD TO.
I ate oranges ALL DAY YESTERDAY. I’m not exaggerating. I had to send someone to the store to get me more because I’d eaten all we had and wasn’t done, because ORANGES!!!!! They were the best thing I’d ever eaten. Yesterday. Today, I want MEAT. A giant steak. An enormous meaty burger. A pot roast.
I’m eating like I’m growing a litter.
I have my first ultrasound in 12 days. I cannot wait to see what’s in there.

Hey- if eating will keep you from hurling-just do it! I hated that hurling feeling. I can’t wait to see what’s in there too! I think you should just go with the thought that with 3 kids, the weight WILL come off again.
We’re on day 35 since Aunt Flo’s last visit and I have been starving. I’m hoping it’s not just wishful thinking.
maybe you’re having twins? : )
Maybe this ones a boy. I wanted meat and all things protein when I was pregnant with Aaron. With Elyse, there was a candy and sugar shortage throughout WV.
I was the same way with my boys. I wanted protein and chicken wasn’t cutting it. I wanted read meat ALL THE TIME!
I second what Amy and Sam said…I also found that fat-free dairy foods were satisfying -lots of cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese (mmmm). I even drank milk throughout my pregnancy…ever since my son was born the thought of drinking milk makes me want to hurl…
I ate oranges by the bagful when I was pregnant. When I was a kid, I’d peel ‘em and eat them bit by bit…but when I was pregnant, that was gross, they had to be cut into eighths!
I so remember that feeling. I, too, at oranges like I’d never eaten them before…they tasted fantastic! Can’t wait to see what’s in there too!
From your description, I’m thinking twin boys. I know I was always definitely more hungry than normal with my girl (and had to eat Dairy Queen chocolate soft-serve daily) but with each boy it was insane.
It could also slow down in a few weeks when you’re well into the second trimester.
I’m glad to hear the child won’t have scurvy! Keep your spirits up by remembering it’s temporary, and by that 9th month the baby will be doing gymnastics on all your organs and you probably won’t feel that hungry (at least I didn’t). And also remember that when you’re nursing a baby is an awesome time to lose weight!! (except for in the milks area)
P.S. Ah!!! Haiku deadline approaching and I haven’t submitted anything!
