Everyone’s catching the holiday spirit – including Pop-Tarts with their Limited Edition Gingerbread flavor. I was given the task of creating a recipe from them. But how do you take something delicious and make it more delicious? You add chocolate. And peanut butter. Oh, and sugar! I decided to call it Reindeer Food. It was sweet enough to make my kids fly, after all. Here’s how to make it:

Pop-Tarts Reindeer Food

Reindeer Food Ingredients

Ingredients:

* 12 Gingerbread Pop-Tarts toaster pastries
* 1 cup of chocolate chips
* 1/2 cup of peanut butter
* 1/4 cup of butter
* 1 teaspoon of vanilla
* 2 cups of powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Cut 12 Gingerbread Pop-Tarts toaster pastries into bite-size pieces.
  2. Cut into bite-size pieces.

  3. Put the bite-size pieces in a large bowl and set aside.
  4. Set aside.

  5. Add the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter to a microwave-safe bowl.
  6. Add chocolate chips, butter, and peanut butter.

  7. Place the bowl in the microwave and cook for about 1 1/2 minutes.
  8. Place in microwave

  9. Stir the chocolate and peanut butter mixture until smooth.
  10. Stir!

  11. Stir in the vanilla.
  12. Add vanilla.

  13. Pour the chocolate and peanut butter mixture over the Pop-Tarts pieces and stir until evenly coated.
  14. Stir it in!

  15. Add powdered sugar.
  16. Add powdered sugar.

  17. Stir until the pieces are coated.
  18. Stir it up!

  19. Package up all pretty-like and share!
  20. Reindeer food!

Some families make it a tradition to watch the Thanksgiving Day parades. Others watch football or get a game going in the backyard. My family makes videos. Not just regular videos. Silly videos. We’ve elevated the personal home movie to a level of hilarity – well, we think they’re hilarious – that rivals anything we could watch on television.

It always begins innocently.

“We should make Amy a birthday video. We’re all here…we haven’t seen her for a while. It’d be better than a card.”

“Yeah. Hey, wouldn’t it be fun to make it a rap video?”

And that’s how it starts.

One year, we were inspired by Julia’s extreme sock monkey play and spent nearly the entire holiday making a “sockumentary” about my sock monkey-making hobby (with Jules starring as my product development department).

So, our plan for this post was to show you how to make the baked apple recipe we cooked up last week. Then Julia suggested that we make it a cooking show (starring her, of course). A few wouldn’t-it-be-funny-ifs later, we made this.

What are you family’s Thanksgiving traditions? Tell me in the comments and you’ll be entered to win a $100 Visa giftcard from BlogHer!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it’s all about family and food. I really like my family and, it’s no secret, I love to eat. So, I was pretty excited when a box of Pop-Tarts Limited Edition flavor Frosted Pumpkin Pie landed on my doorstep. Thankfully, the assignment that came with them – to create a recipe using the new flavor – kept me from ripping right in and devouring them. After days of pondering (and exhibiting incredible restraint), my daughter Julia and I came up with this twist on a favorite baked apple recipe.

Baked Apples a la Pop-Tarts

Baked Apples a la Pop-Tarts ingredients

Ingredients:

* 4 Apples medium-large apples (Julia says shiny ones are best.)
* One Frosted Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts toaster pastry, crushed
* 4 Tablespoons of butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Wash and use a spoon to core the apples to within about 1/2 inch of the bottom.
  3. Core apple

  4. Peel some skin around the middle or the upper half of the apple. (This will keep it from splitting when it bakes.)
  5. Peel skin around middle

  6. Fill the apple with crushed Pop-Tarts.
  7. 1 Tablespoon Pop-Tarts, crushed

  8. Top with 1 Tablespoon of butter.
  9. 1 Tablespoon butter

  10. Add water to the baking dish until it’s about 1/4 of an inch deep.
  11. Bake 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the size of your apples. If they are tender when you pierce them with a fork, they’re done.
  12. Baked Apple a la Pop-Tarts

Now, I realize it’s unmannerly to toot one’s own horn, so try this recipe and do it for me! These apples are DELICIOUS! They’re healthy and filling enough to serve for breakfast and sweet and tasty enough to have for dessert. I made them for my kids and let them believe they were having dessert for breakfast. Guess what they’re grateful for this Thanksgiving?

What about you? What are you grateful for? Tell me in the comments and you’ll be entered to win a $100 Visa giftcard from BlogHer! Is that awesome or what!?!
